Adelaide to Papakowhai
The hotel is right on the edge of the city centre nearest to the airport.
Unfortunately, the shuttle starts at my hotel and wanders all over the
city from there, taking about 40 minutes to do a 10 minute journey. As
the price difference between it and a taxi was only $7.50, I chose a taxi
and arrived quickly and in comfort.
The airport is quite large but with very few people in it. With white surfaces
everywhere, it has an almost clinical appearance. Clean but not particularly
welcoming. There wasn't a queue anywhere and I was through all of the formalities
in no time at all.

Adelaide Airport - pristine and clinical

There being no Air NZ lounge, I went to the Qantas one, which was also
large and empty. Initially, the only food on offer was the remains of breakfast,
toast and marmalade. Later, some carrot and coconut soup appeared. This
was surprisingly interesting and well worth the wait. There was free internet,
a plus point, but no booze until 12.00. What a bunch of wowsers!

Gate lounge - people at last!
|
I eventually emerged into the gate area & awaited departure with lots
of other people - although it still looked empty.
The plane was a few minutes late departing but was slightly early arriving
into Auckland. This being my last business class flight for some time -
perhaps my last flight of any class for some time - I took full advantage
of the food and wine.
Auckland was sunny and cool when I arrived, the food and drink in the Koru
lounge were excellent, and the plane got me back to Wellington on schedule.
The shuttle took a little while to get going but I eventually arrived home
again at 21.50, about 10 minutes before the schedule I had set myself.
Another expedition completed.
